More Details
In the late 90's to early 2000's a new wave of Metal bands fused tradional metal with hip hop and rap, evolving into Nu Metal, a term slapped on bands like Korn, Disturbed and Limp Bizkit. The music was heavy, angry and loud, often with hip-hop beats, backing a rapping and screaming vocalist. The fashion included baggy trousers, facial piercings, wallet chains, sports clothing and coloured dreadlocks.
While Emo first developed in Washington D.C in the mid 1980s out of the city's hardcore and punk scene, it wasn't until the early to mid 2000's the term hit the mainstream as more pop-oriented bands began receiving mainstream success like Jimmy Eat World and Dashboard Confessional. Then bands who had previously been considered Pop Punk were suddenly being branded as Emo. Social media became big, especially Myspace which birthed a subculture centered around newer more polished acts like Fall Out Boy, Paramore and My Chemical Romance. The fashion was similar with facial piercings and coloured hair, but this time the pants were tight and the fringes were long.
We'll be spinning the best of both worlds this Friday night at Ding Dong Lounge.
