Ding Dong Lounge is Auckland's dedicated rock venue. We host live bands, DJs, comedy, karaoke and themed nights celebrating rock music in all its forms — from classic rock and punk to metal, alternative, emo, grunge and everything in between.

We're the kind of venue you'll find in cities all over the world — the Melbourne rock bar, the London live venue, the New York dive bar — but with our own Aotearoa New Zealand flavour.

Look for the large Ding Dong Lounge sign on Wyndham Street. It is easy to spot whether you are walking down the street or passing by in a car.

The main entrance is downstairs from street level.

Getting Here

​

Because Ding Dong Lounge is a licensed venue, we recommend using public transport, rideshare or taxis if you plan on drinking.

By Train

​

Te Waihorotiu Station (City Rail Link)
Approximately 5 minutes' walk from Ding Dong Lounge.

Te Waihorotiu Station is one of Auckland's new City Rail Link stations, providing convenient access from across Auckland's rail network.

Waitematā Station (Britomart)
Approximately 8 minutes' walk from Ding Dong Lounge.

Waitematā Station is Auckland's main rail hub, with train and bus connections across the region.

If you are not drinking, there are several parking options within walking distance.

​

Recommended Parking

​

Wilson Parking 5 Durham Lane

This is the car park most commonly used by our customers.

It is located behind Ding Dong Lounge and is open 24 hours. Although it is very close, the walking route takes approximately 5 minutes as you walk around from Durham Lane to Wyndham Street.

Closest Parking

​

Wilson Parking Queen Street - SAP Tower

This car park is directly across the road from Ding Dong Lounge and is the closest option.

However, it closes at midnight, so it is not usually the best choice for Friday and Saturday nights when events often run late.

Street Parking

​

Limited on-street parking is available around Wyndham Street and surrounding Auckland CBD streets.

Parking restrictions vary depending on location and time, so always check the signs before leaving your vehicle.

What Music Do We Play?

​

Ding Dong Lounge is Auckland's dedicated rock venue, celebrating rock music in all its forms.

Depending on the event, you might hear:

• Rock covers

Some nights focus on a particular genre, era or scene, while others celebrate the wider rock community.

Do I Need To Know The Bands?

​

Not at all.

​

Many people come to Ding Dong Lounge to discover new music. We regularly host local artists, touring bands and emerging acts from New Zealand and overseas.

​

You don't need to know every band on the lineup to have a great night. Come along, grab a drink, enjoy the atmosphere and you might leave with a new favourite band.

​

Understanding The Venue

 

Ding Dong Lounge is the name of the overall venue.

​

We have two main spaces:

​

Ding Dong Lounge Main Bar

​

Our main bar is located downstairs from the street entrance.

This area features:

• DJs

• themed club nights

• alternative and rock parties

• drinks, food and dancing

 

Dead Witch

​

Dead Witch is our live performance room.

​

Although Dead Witch is at street level, you enter through Ding Dong Lounge:

1. Enter downstairs through the main entrance

2. Walk across the dance floor

3. Head upstairs between the bar and DJ booth​

 

Most live bands, comedy shows and karaoke events happen in Dead Witch.

​

Around 99% of the time:

• Live bands = Dead Witch

• DJ-only themed nights = downstairs in the main bar

 

Your event page and ticket will always confirm the location and door time.

​

Some nights we run events across both levels, where one entry fee gives access to the entire venue.

​

What Happens During The Night?

​

Opening times vary depending on the event.

Generally:

• Bar opens from 7:00 pm

• Happy Hour runs 7:00 pm–8:00 pm

• Happy Hour runs 12:00 am–1:00 am

• Dead Witch doors open at the advertised time on your ticket

• Bands usually start between 8:30 pm and 9:00 pm

• Live performances usually finish around midnight

 

Occasionally bands may need extra time for setup or soundcheck. If Dead Witch doors are delayed, you're welcome to relax downstairs in Ding Dong Lounge where the bar remains open. In most cases, performances still begin at the scheduled time.

​

After around 10:00 pm–11:00 pm the venue becomes louder and busier as the crowd builds and people start dancing.

​

Friday and Saturday nights feature DJs until close, usually around 4:00 am. DJs also appear on selected weeknights.

​

Entry, Tickets & ID

​

All Ding Dong Lounge events are R18.

​

Please bring valid ID if requested.

​

We accept:

• New Zealand driver licences

• Kiwi Access Cards (18+)

• Passports

 

For international visitors: your passport is required as proof of age. Overseas driver licences cannot be accepted.

​

Cover charges vary depending on the event.

​

Buying tickets in advance is recommended but door sales are usually still available. Presales are usually cheaper than door sales and help us plan staffing and capacity.

​

Tickets purchased through the Ding Dong Lounge website do not include booking fees. Some promoters use their own ticketing platforms, which may charge booking fees.

​

Dress Code

​

Ding Dong Lounge is a rock venue, but we don't have a strict dress code.

Come dressed comfortably and ready for live music, DJs and dancing.

The only requirement is that guests wear appropriate footwear. Open shoes are not permitted.

​

Rock 'n' Roll Karaoke

​

Saturday nights continue after the bands with Rock 'n' Roll Karaoke from midnight in Dead Witch.

If you have already paid entry to another Ding Dong Lounge event that night — whether it is a live show upstairs at Dead Witch or a themed night downstairs — karaoke is included at no extra charge.

​

If you are arriving at midnight specifically for karaoke, entry is $5, which includes access to Dead Witch.

 

If there is a ticketed Dead Witch event running before midnight, you will need a ticket for that event to enter Dead Witch before karaoke begins.

 

Food & Drinks

Food is available every night from opening until close.

Coming Alone?

​

Absolutely.

Many people visit Ding Dong Lounge on their own to see bands, check out a themed night, enjoy karaoke or discover Auckland's rock scene.

Accessibility

​

We want visitors to know what to expect before arriving.

​

Unfortunately, Ding Dong Lounge and Dead Witch are not wheelchair accessible.

• The main entrance is accessed via stairs from Wyndham Street.

• There is no lift between levels.

• Dead Witch may be accessed via a rear entrance with approximately 2–3 steps, but it is not fully accessible and can become crowded during events.

• We do not have accessible toilets.

 

If you have accessibility requirements, please contact us before attending and we'll discuss what options may be available.

Security, Bags & Safety

 

We want everyone to have a safe and enjoyable night.

CCTV operates throughout the venue.

Depending on the event, security staff may be present and our team may ask to check bags on entry. This helps us make sure no outside alcohol or prohibited items are brought into the venue and keeps the night safe and enjoyable for everyone.

Smoking & Re-entry

​

Smoking and vaping are not permitted inside Ding Dong Lounge.

If you would like to smoke or vape, you must do so outside on Wyndham Street.

Re-entry is available. Speak to our door staff before leaving and we can provide a stamp or wristband.

Lost Property

​

If you lose something at Ding Dong Lounge, the quickest way to find it is to come back into the venue while we are open and ask our staff.

​

Our social media team does not manage lost property, and messages about lost items may not receive an immediate response.

​

If possible, please visit us in person so our bar team can check for you.

Photography is welcome for personal use.

Professional photography or filming must be approved in advance.

Free guest Wi-Fi is available throughout the venue.

Nearby After The Show

​

If you're hungry after a show, we recommend grabbing food at Ding Dong Lounge before you leave.

​

There are also late-night options nearby, including:

• McDonald's

• KFC

• Kebab shops

 

Most are within a short walk of the venue.

 

For getting home, Uber and taxis are readily available throughout Auckland City Centre.
